Mission

The obligation of those who have the ear of many is great.

OUR STORY

A Song For Life was formally founded as a 501(c)3 in 2019 by Hope Daley-Derry as a common platform for artists to advocate for the causes they believe in.

Hope conceptualized the organization after a loved one was the victim of a random act of gun violence in 2017, leaving them paralyzed and halting their artistic career. By encouraging artists to combine their artistry with advocacy, the organization is helping artists raise awareness about a wide variety of social causes. We believe issues in our community of education inequality, mental health, bullying, and more are all tied to violence and gun violence in our communities.

OUR GOAL

We aim to end the perception that violence exists in a vacuum. Violence rears its head most in neighborhoods that are underresourced in terms of food, education & finance. Violence and its origins are intersectional—mental illness, food insecurity, poverty, education, and other factors are all directly linked to the epidemic of violence in communities all over the world. A Song For Life connects artists to opportunities across mentorship, live events, music creation and collaboration, and performances that allow them to raise awareness about these different, interconnected issues plaguing our communities.

OUR APPROACH

With a network of almost 100 artists ambassadors, we are mobilizing a mass of artists & organizations to utilize the power of music to combat senseless violence on all fronts, including but not limited to mental health awareness, educational inequality, food & agricultural education, and anti-bullying & anti-harassment.

A Song For Life, the organization & its work, is lovingly dedicated to the memory of Stephen Hewitt, 1964-1988
